Can Chicken's Sit Without Having Eggs?

My chickens have not been laying lately but even so one of the the hens, Iron Chick, has started sitting on the golf balls that I put into the nesting boxes. I didn't want her to be sitting there with no results so I asked my friend down the road if she had warm eggs that she could lend me for my hen to sit on.

She brought me 4 eggs today in a plastic box with a towel around them to keep in the heat. We have never raised any chicks from egg to adult. We have only had about a month old ones and up. Spring is in the air!
