Where To Put It All

I'm going on a little trip tonight and I wanted to try a method that I saw on pinterest.com. I learned some things that work and some things that need to be improved on the whole idea. So I thought I would share them with my readers. You will need a few things.

These straws will work but I suggest larger, wider straws to speed up the process. I had to shove the stuff into the straw and also squeeze and release to form a vacuum and that helped some. It was a bit of a mess and I had to wipe off the ends before sealing them. But enough about that, here is what you do. Thanks to youtube.com.

Here is another method and the one that I used.

Ways that you can use your single use containers.

Coffee creamer
triple antibiotic
spices
tooth paste
single use lemonades or flavored drinks for the kids(just mix with sweetener and funnel in.)
match container
BB container
Medicine container
shampoo

If you have other ideas for uses please let me know in the comments.

Oatmeal Bear Claws - A Use For Leftover Granola

Yesterday I made granola as some call it. There was some left over; I'd say about a cup. Today I will be using it in a recipe for breakfast. If you try this let me know how it turns out for you. I like to add in left overs when they are available because then the old saying is true, "waste not want not." It gives me a good feeling and it doesn't accidentally end up on the floor either.
Rising on the stove

Oatmeal Bear Claws (the pastry not the animal with grain on the paw)

1. I started with a recipe for Quick and Easy 30 minute yeast rolls.
2. Added extra sweetener about a 1/3 cup of honey
3. Added lots of shakes of cinnamon, maybe a tablespoon or more. (Cinnamon regulates the blood sugar naturally.)
4. Added the granola from the night before to the dry ingredients
5. Rolled the risen dough in oil and then flour and made them into a paw.
6. Then on to the stove for another rise  then make the claw indentions with your fingers and into the oven as per the recipe.
7. You have the option of adding some butter on the top while it is cooling. This also helps if you have overcooked your claws a little to help them to be soft on the top.

Feather Abuse

Do you have a chicken that is plucking other chickens. I have researched and researched all over the internet and then came back to my Mom and my friend and they told me what the problem was. Mom always knows when no one else does. My friend who raises chickens and has helped me a lot (I will call her "Bubles.") confirmed the diagnosis.

Our white chicken needs a white friend. Also our black rooster could probably use a black hen.

Meanwhile, Marigold is hanging out in our dog cage until we find a white hen and a black hen because she is scared to live in the flock. She is happy to be inside and is eating and drinking again.
Marigold does get out a little to walk around for exercise. She has even made us an egg in that pen.

Diatomaceous Earth Issue 2

I have been taking a heaping teaspoon of Diatomaceous Earth or D.E. now for about 5 days at every meal. It has been going pretty good. Just remember the admonition to drink lots of water to keep every thing moving along smoothly. I haven't noticed any amazing results yet for myself, children or husband but I am still very hopeful and its early on in the adventure. Although I haven't noticed any changes for myself I have noticed some change in my chicken's egg laying.

Where I usually get 3 or 4 eggs a day now I have 11 in two days. On top of that my already large egg layer is now making jumbo sized eggs. I thought that was great! I have added cayenne and extra oyster shell as well so that could account for it but when I was researching the possibility of it being because of the D.E. I found a report that matched what had happened to me after I added it to the chicken's water. So I went back and added more to the water and added some to their feed to keep bugs out and continue the good job that they are doing.
just a little bit bigger but bigger

In other news my banty chickens have started laying eggs. They are super cute because they are the smallest bread of bantam in the world called surma.

My Journey With Diatomaceous Earth

Yesterday my shipment of Diatomaceous Earth came in. I was so excited to take it and find out what it will do for me. It reminds me of making mud pies when I was a child and trying to eat them. Although this is much easier to stomach.

Click through the picture to order.

The first thing I did was to put some into a Tupperware that I had by scooping it out with a measuring cup so that it would blow up into the air from pouring it out. Its not good to breath it in just like any other powder on the market warns.

Also you should not take just any Diatomaceous Earth. It needs to be Food Grade Fresh Water and filtered for human consumption. Never take pool grade or any other one that is not food grade safe because they are mixed with harmful chemicals.

I took a heaping teaspoon in a tea glass full of water and kept stirring while I drank it. Like I had heard and read in my research about it, it tasted mostly like water but a like like chalk. It wasn't hard to take at all at that dosage. I woke up this morning and took some more at the same amount.

The blog at The Prairie Homestead tells about many of the benefits of D.E. and if you are interested in learning more about it you should read her article and check out the information I have gathered from youtube.com on my playlist. There is a lot of information out there. For a lean budget this is one of the least expensive natural products available and can be used for eliminating bugs on dogs to loosing weight in humans.

Here are some of the uses that I know about so far although I will probably forget some:
(these are not backed by the FDA)

bug killer (ants, roaches, fleas, lice, termites anything with exoskeletons)
energy
bones
skin
teeth
nails
hair
tendons
joints
heart
kidneys
organs in general
parasites (eliminator)
loosing weight
cancer
viruses

I plan to report back regularly about my progress or lack thereof. If you are taking this product and have anything to share we would love to hear from you in a comment.

Stove Covers and New Spaces!

Stove Covers

I am famous for dropping things into the stove burners because I grew up with a flat stove top. I love to prepare things right under the vent hood light because it is brighter there and maybe just out of habit.

Lately I have been having more determination and a little bit more energy, which could be contributed to taking magnesium morning and night. Who knows it could just be because I have more hope of a clean house now that we finally got the dogs out of the house permanently. Yeah!

To stop the battle with small fires and fire alarms I decided to clean up the stove top real good and then place my pot lids on the top to keep out all of the stuff and keep the clutter out of the pots and pans cabinet. Yes I know you can buy these at the store but I never have and I thought this would be better really. We will see.

New Spaces!

Now that the dogs are out of the back room at night there are new plans for that room. One of them is turning it into a larger laundry room. That is going to take my husband some time to get it all done, with his work schedule and all but it will be nice when it is finished.

With another small portion of that room I have made an extra room for the kids. I think it is nice for the kids to be able to have their own personal space every now and then. Three times a week one child with get to call that room their very own from 5pm till breakfast then they have to leave it like they found it. They also get to choose a servant for that night until bed time. There are a few video games in there and some educational hand held games, a lamp for reading, Paper for drawing or writing and a side table that doubles as an ironing board.

We named their motel the Labrador Inn. So far it has been a hit and the zildren are having a great time using it.

So named because we have pictures of Labradors on the wall.

This is when the recliner was made up for a girl. Don't worry it looks different all together
when it is made for the boys.
I would like some comments from other large families about what they do to give some of their children the space they need. I know there are other creative minds out there. So if you know someone who has a large family pass this blog on to them and I will have fun reading the comments. Thanks!

My New Years Resolution!

I am resolved to keep my laundry room floor clean. We didn't have the money to finish our NEW laundry room that is full sized so I resolved to work early every morning until it was clean and better for us. Every little bit of improvement helps.

I just hate all of the laundry spilling out everywhere.  Below is what our improved laundry station looks like. For now it will do and I am happy with the much needed progress. The girls even helped out and were excited about the clean room. Zena scrubbed the floor like Cinderella and Zoi with her one useful arm volunteered to put away some of her laundry.

clean floor no piles, on the floor. YEAH!

I'm excited about what the new year holds.  Just pray that the laundry room stays this way. I have done this before you know. It seems like sickness hits me and the laundry room is the first to go. Maybe now that I have some children helping me with this it won't happen that way this time. One can only hope.
