The Home School Schedule

I wanted to do a schedule starting in the morning and going through to 2 or 3 in the afternoon. We did this for a week and I became too concerned about the house work not getting done so I prayed and asked God what to do. His answer came last night and we decided to go back to our afternoon school it seems to work the best for our family.

We are able to devote the morning to cleaning the bedrooms and living room and I focus on the school prep and the kitchen and laundry. I didn't get it all done today but I feel so much less stressed and able to focus on a smooth day for all of us. I did loose energy at the end of the day but I am at least not snapping at every one for no good reason.

Thank you Lord for guiding our path!

Rules and Central Government

Have you ever wanted to do your own thing among a group of people or even in a church setting or the like theme of this post as a child at home?

I spent a lot of today explaining to my children the concept of why we have a certain person in charge.

Why we have rules.

What happens when the rules are broken besides punishment.

Here are a few things that I came up with:

Our judgement is not always the best judgment. I told them what if God gave one of you the task of decorating a mountain and you chose decorate it with cheese, yogurt and popcorn instead of trees and grass? My oldest told me that over time it would rot.

Then I gave other illustrations and assured them that even though I would be giving out instructions and guide their learning this year (as opposed to a more relaxed program) that there would be times of their own creativity mixed in. Times when they would work on their own and times when they could make their own art work and stories and discoveries.

How about you and your children? Have you had any similar experiences? What were some of your examples?

The First Day of School

Yesterday was the first day of school. It went really well. I found out that we had everything that we needed for school right in our shelves not including our school supplies.  So we went out to get them as a family and that was a bit crazy but we survived that and Zoi was so excited I just had to start up school yesterday.  This year I have all text books and no computer except for the story time that I let the preschoolers watch on my computer for a short time. What that is is books being read on you tube where they can see the words. I have three different scheduled days in all. I switch off the days one and two and then our Fridays are all together different.

I have scheduled classes for the older children age 11 through 7 and then I have activities for the younger ones. They are doing focused art in the morning I have then doing a certain letter and in the evening they use glue and scissors and have a certain theme like bubbles. They are also having puzzle time where they get to do numbers and letters and shapes some of them are magnetic letters and numbers on metal cookie sheets.
We are also adding word and picture books today as well as flash cards.

The older children have scheduled subjects that I help them with

Day 1
Bible (they write and study 2 verses)
Free Art Time (planning time or cleaning time for Mom)
Mom reads aloud time

Language Arts
History Geography
Reading Aloud

Field Trip Anywhere
Arts and Crafts
Science Project or Experiment

Providing a Home Schooling Environment

I have been seeking God as to how to accomplish what I need to accomplish in my home even though I get sick a lot and have low energy. I have really been searching my heart and trying to be honest with myself as to what CAN be done.

I know that we are not doing all that we could do and something a homeschooling mother said on a video the other day. She said that our job as parents is to remove distractions and provide learning tools and opportunities. The learning tools can be:

library books
text books
art supplies
table learning time as a family
reading aloud time
chore time
flash cards
learning games
learning trips
and learning groups with other homeschoolers.

So, today I have pulled out the computers from their activity room and put them into the closet because they spend way too much time on them. They can be a help but at the same time they can inhibit learning and creativity and togetherness. Right now they are a temptation and a distraction. It's hard for me to keep them on school work when they get on the computer so for now they are on an extended computer vacation.
minus the computers

My goals for this school year are for the children to:

learn more
for the kids to be more responsible
for the siblings to get along better
for us to learn more about each other (mother and children and vice versa)

Next, I plan to come up with a plan on what to teach them as a family at the table. Stay tuned for that:)

What have you done to help your children choose the right path?

Sick Again

I am so sick of having children who are green! The Devil is attacking our family again. It's so hard to watch your little ones suffer. Now I feel sick but I have to go on. You can't ask for help because you may give the stuff to someone else.

* So I ask for you to bind Satan with me and help us with your prayers.

*To pray for strong immune systems for all of us and quick recovery.

* Protection for the few who are not sick yet. Thanks!

When you are NOT mentioned

In my Bible reading this morning I came across a very interesting verse. Today I want you to look at why it is a good thing whenever the mother is not listed as one of the parents. I believe it suggest unity in the home and  a respect that is hard to earn but well worth it!

This is very interesting to note because the writer is suggesting that somehow the mother had an influence on the actions of her child. In the story of Jehoakim the young ruler thought that his father's ways were out dated and that he didn't want to rule the same way that his father did.
Where did he get this rebellion? Often rebellion begins at home. Whenever we as wives and mothers begin to audibly complain about something that our husbands have done to irritate us or that they are not this or that, then we are opening our hearts and homes to a rebellious spirit.
It works the same way whenever we complain to our parents about our husbands. We are taring down our husbands to them and then our parents start treating them with disrespect. Before we know it we have quit visiting the in-laws and everyone has bitter feelings and we didn't even realize with whom it started.
I've seen it over and over-Complaining builds disrespect!

Have you seen this before? Do you know what I am talking about? A good book to read on this subject is, Created to Be His Help Meet by Debbie Pearl. This is at the heart of a lot of marriage problems. If you are having problems, I invite you to search your heart. Too many marriages are being taken advantage of by Satan. Don't let him ruin yours. Take it back for His Glory!

A Bulletin Board with a Card Board Box

The other day I made a great little bulletin board with just a few items.

 What you will need:

Two pieces of thick cardboard from a large box or even a small one (not the kind from a cereal boxes but rather from packing boxes)

Some fabric that will cover your creation

Hot glue

Some kind of ribbon or string or cloth for a hanging string.

3Boys&aDog DEALS!

Do you Ever Want Something To Change?

Lately I have wanted some change to take place. I get frustrated with the same thing and want God to take me to a better place in my life where things make more since and there is more order.

Do you ever get to that place a place of  re-evaluation?

Here are some things that we are working to change:

*Chores to be done in a quick manner not drug out for hours of the day.
*School to be done in more of a group fashion and in an orderly way. (we are looking for a new curriculum to use that will suit our needs)
*As always I am still looking to improve my health. Lately my Scoliosis has been my focus as well as my lack of energy I think they may be connected.
*We are putting together a program for the children to do on a certain night of the week that will be teaching them survival skills for boys and girls. Dad works with the boys and Mom works with he girls.
* Stress relief and more sleep for the parents:)
* A way to have a nearly free vacation and one that would be relaxing and fun at the same time. (Is that possible with 7 children?)

We are making some progress on our list but its just a little at a time and it takes time to foster change.

What have you done lately to faster a big change in your life?
