Mexican Sopapillas

I've been wanting to make these for a while they are such a treat! Maybe they will be a winter favorite! The kids liked getting to help roll out the dough.

Mexican Sopapillas (I doubled this and gave some for a birthday present)

1pkg. or ( 2 teaspoons of brick yeast its cheaper just store it in the freezer)
1/4 c. lukewarm water
6 tbls. honey
3/4 c. water or milk
1tsp. salt
2 tbsp. butter (good for your teeth)
1 egg, beaten
3c. flour ( I used white whole wheat)
Approximately 2 inches cooking oil or a deep fryer.

Dissolve yeast in water and add honey. Warm butter in the microwave for 30 seconds. Then add the egg and butter to your mixer and mix on low add the yeast mixture when it has started to bubble a bit making sure to scrape out all of the honey into the mixing bowl. The slowly add the dry ingredients on a low setting.
Take the dough out and turn it onto a floured board or table and roll it out nice and flat as thin as you can without causing a tear and cut into squares about 1 1/2 to 2 inch squares, rectangles or triangles with your trusty pizza cutter. Some may want to use a thick cookie cutter as well depending on what time you have to play around with such things.
Put your oil on to heat and if you are using your stove it doesn't have to be on the highest setting but you will want to put it on high and then when it starts to heat up turn it down to about 6. Then just put one or two in and turn when they start to plump on one side then allow them to plump on the other side and remove. Serve with a honey and butter mixture or just both separately.  Some were eaten all by themselves. Yum!
This will foster fun memories and maybe stir up some old ones for you to share with your children about eating these sweet treats in your younger years. Treasure the moments.

Easy Granola Bars

We were needing a snack to hold us over until the next meal and I always wanted to come up with a recipe that would work good for our family for Granola Bars. So I did some revising and this one was  a winner!

Here is our new recipe!

Granola Bars:

Ingredient List:
1 cup honey
1/2 cup butter or margarine softened
1/2 tsp. vanilla or imitation vanilla
1 egg
1 cup flour (whatever kind you may have)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt or 1/2 if you like more (gotta have my sea salt)
4 cup quick cooking rolled oats
(anything else that you may have on hand that is granola like ie. nuts, seeds, berries or like us a half cup of peanut butter.
Cream together the wet ingredients then slowly add to your mixed the dry ingredients.  Press the mixture into a large glass casserole and bake on 400 degrees for about 12 minutes or until a lightly browned on top.

Quick Pancakes for the Busy Day!

Today was another one of those days when I had lots to accomplish in a small amount of time because we have Revival all week at our church so I decided to try an experiment. I took a cake mix  that I had left over from a church event and added the eggs and oil and water that it suggested but then I also added a cup of whole wheat flour for better health.

Whole wheat helps clean out the gunk that builds up in our bodies. Then I wanted a more pancake like batter so I added more water about a cup and a half more than was called for on the package and then I stirred it and added some sprinkles of cinnamon to balance out the sugars. Yes, this isn't the most nutritious of breakfasts but it will help speed up your morning in a bind.

After we started eating our delicious pancakes we thought about how good it would have been with some tasty fruit on top. We dreamed about berries and then we dreamed about buying a blue berry tree this next year. Don't forget to dream with your children. Its fun and good for you to envision a future with your children. It's something God does for his children. Jer. 29:11,  Rom.8:28

Picky Eaters

The other day I read an article about picky eaters and it mentioned that you could provide shaped food or shaped dishes for their food to be displayed in to encourage children to eat more. Then the other day our dear neighbor was giving away some of her dishes and things from her garage sale leftovers and I found a heart shaped pottery bowl with a little blue on it. After I brought it back home and washed it I know what I should use it for. We have now used it a couple of times and it has made him feel like his food is somehow transformed into edible. I hope it continues.

Monday's Kids Linky Party

This is a place where you can come to party. If you are not here to party that is fine just take a look around at ll the tabs and check out the other posts. God Bless and thanks for stopping by!
Here is a post I read that resembles what we are trying to accomplish here at the Harrod House. We really like to have people over and minister to them the love of God but first we have to learn to be more responsible with our things and help around the house. You can click through the welcome mat to see what Jacinda has to say.

Dress-up Snowman

This weekend was fun. The z-kids got to spend Thanksgiving with their cousins that they hardly ever see. They played games, pet horses, swung in a tree swing, rode a 4 wheeler and ate some turkey. They visited with the Grandparents and ate fruit salad till it disappeared. That was one perfect day for them.
Then the next day they spent a lot of time outside with their Dad playing and watching him get a dog house started. We now have a long run that she can run on and stay outside when it is not too cold. Today it is pretty cold and the dog house isn't finished so I will have to take her out and in.
Now onto the Snowman. Snowmen are sparse in these parts and me and Zoi ( decided to make one and then we got the idea that if we laminated the snowman onto a construction paper then we could add clothes and hats and even change the snow man from a boy to a girl with hair and accessories. It was a hit and she just loved her new toy. She took it with her on a trip to minister to the nursing home in the next town over and had so much fun.
If you try this let me know. I would let you see but I still have problems uploading pictures on my own. Maybe one day I will sit down and learn it. Blessings!

5 Easy Steps to Finding the Right Church

Hi, I'm Zeke.  Today I am going to try to help you find a good church.

Step 1: Make sure they use the King James Bible, God's word for the English speaking people if you speak English.
Step 2: Make sure they have salvation my faith in Jesus Christ's death, burial and Resurrection from the dead for the payment (remission) of sins.  Many churches have salvation but they add you must live a good life, join their church, do good works, do another religious act (example.. baptism, communion, pray in tongues) these things are not necessary for or to salvation good works come as a result of trusting Christ. After you receive Christ you naturally want to please him. This is the right order not the other way around.
Step 3:  Make sure they soul-win. If they don't believe in actively giving out the gospel then you have a dead church. A church that isn't going out isn't sharing what God can do for others. They are keeping it a secret. A city that is
Step 4: Are they scriptural? May times you can tell right away if they are scriptural if you ask about their salvation and ask them what they teach about the way one gets to heaven. Also ask them if there is something you have to do keep that salvation.
Step 5: Pray for God to lead you to the right church and to give you wisdom to make the right decision. Not a decision based on how sweet people are or how pretty the church is or what neat programs they may have but in the right teaching of the church.
I go to a Fundamental Baptist Church because the teaching of that church comes straight from the Bible and not from extra books or traditions.

Clams of Speech (Despair) #5

Along came an old fish and saw that they were in despair and asked them what was wrong. The General told him their story and how they had found the clam but nothing was in it.  Then he told them why there wasn't anything in it. The clam they were looking for was an OYSTER. They were a bit confused. But then finally they got the point. They realized what the deceiving crab was up to and felt so betrayed. General Clam rallied the troops and announced that they would have to start all over again but just then the old fish, McFaniel, cut in and told them he knew a short cut to where the crab was. McFaniel told them to go across the lava river and there was a guard at the opening of the lava river that asked them a riddle that they had to pass to use his lava proof boat. Once they arrived at the lava river they met there this guard .............

Garage Sales

This weekend my neighbor was having a yard sale and she was selling everything she treasured because she was being evicted. She lost her job and I wanted to be a blessing to her. So I went over even though I knew I had nothing in my pockets I just wanted to speak to her and encourage her because she was expecting God to provide her rent money so she could stay in her home. I saw several things right away that I could use in my home and asked her what she wanted for them, surprising to me they were going for a real steal. I asked my husband and he scrounged up the money. Now we have a new crock pot, (only used 2 times-ours quit working about a year ago) a new circuit for making crafts, (worth $200-we tried to get one last year for the church Sunday school but couldn't afford one) and a new stand mixer. (I've always used a hand mixer) I tried it out this morning and we had some lovely bread with the dough hooks:) I went over looking to be a blessing because I thought I had already seen her stuff and then I decided to add some of our thrift stuff to her sale to help her bring in some more money. She was thrilled and I was so blessed to help her my heart was overjoyed. I would encourage you as women of God to go out Garage selling and see if there is someone out there that could use your thrift items to increase their sales. Find out why they are having their sale. ITs sooo much more fun than taking them to the thrift store to unseen faces. Then you can share the love of God maybe you could even share an invite to your church or a church tact.

A spice that can stop bleeding

Have you ever reached for a spice shaker to stop a bleed?  I have. A few times whenever my children have gotten a bad cut I have grabbed the Cayenne and given it a little shake right onto the area after I cleaned it off.

The it is so amazing to watch how it just stops it right up. Cayenne is an amazing pepper it also has the power to stop a heart attach while it is happening. So I would strongly urge you if you have a heart condition to carry some capsicum extract with you in your pocket or purse and add some good capsicum to your food as well.

Read more about this on Cayenne's Winter Secret.

Clams of Speech page 4

I haven't told you about the names of these clams yet but that is because the three speechless clams could not say their names so I will tell you their personalities.  There is one of them who always looks on the bright side of things another was the opposite, and the third was unsure of everything.
They were really disappointed after they did not find anything in the giant clam, and the three who could not speech could not show that they were disappointed accept that they could close themselves in their shells and that is what they did for I don't know how long because I did not have my watch with me at the time. It was really long but it wasn't so long that it lasted for days but it wasn't short that you didn't notice.
Along came an old fish  and ...........

You can save loads and loads of money by concocting your own laundry soap from scratch. We use only three ingredients.

                                                                                                  and one box of

Shred the bar soap and mix with the two powders with a big wooden spoon. Use one 1/8 to 1/4 cup of laundry soap per load. You can also add about 30 drops of your favorite essential oil.
order from Natures Sunshine
Homemade Vinegar:

I used a little of the vinegar that I had from the store and made my own Vinegar for softening clothes.  If you want to find out how to make homemade vinegar and herbal vinegar  this a great tutorial. You can also add oils to the softener to add more scent.

I hope this is a blessing today! Let me know what you are doing to help your family with laundry.

Garlic Oil

Recipe for Garlic Oil:

Crush up about 4 or 5 garlic cloves then poor some olive oil over the top and wait an hour. Strain and use on the bottoms of your feet for colds and throats and head congestion. Cover with some old socks and sleep tight! Hope you enjoy this.

When you are fighting a flu or virus or any kind of cough, sore throat, or fever this recipe gives everyone comfort. Garlic is reported to be antibiotic, anifungal and there has even been some evidence that it fights cancer but the verdict is still out on that one. You can find this information at . It's good to know that you have a natural food that is such a friend from the  Lord when you have a sick family member. Right now I have my garlic oil brewing so that I can apply it to my sick child's feet. You can apply it other places but it is more readily absorbed on the feet and you can put socks on so that the smell isn't so strong.

God Bless!

Book of the Day

Today I picked out the Dangerous Book for Boys because boys are supposed to act like boys and not girls. It has all kinds of things that you can build and there is even a couple of kits available that you can get from the same authors that offer science experiments and chemistry programs. I have the Dangerous Book for Boys and I have read it and it is a great book. I hope you will like it too!

The Dog Rodeo

Everyday when we bring our dog Hannah back into the house we have us a full fledged amateur Rodeo. She loves to run around and around our couch and kitchen and under the table until someone finally corners her or catches her unaware which is very difficult. The winner is the one who is finally able to wrangle her and get her back into her room for safe keeping. one day in the future we hope to upgrade to a fenced in front yard or at least a electric fence. She is a full blood chocolate Labrador retriever. Hannah has other pass times as well. She loves to play grab the shoe and grab the (fill in the blank) and take off into the yard for a good chase or tug of war.

Beans with Cheese

Last night we had beans and the kids really liked them so I thought I would share this simple but delicious recipe with you. Its not often that a recipe that contains boiled beans gets this much attention from my children.
After a breakfast or lunch

1. soak a package of beans over night
2. rinse drain the beans (so that all of the gas causing agents are out)
3. cover your beans in water with about an inch and a half extra and add 2 table spoons of salt
4. place on large burner on high until boiling then turn to 3
5. leave on 3 until about 30 to 15 minutes before your next meal then
6. add two or three tsp. of minced garlic and the same of cilantro
7. after that cooks for a little while then serve with shredded cheese and tortillas on the side.
I like to lay a couple of corn tortillas on a plate and then top with a ladle of beans and a pinch of cheese and a tsp. of sour cream. This reminded me so much of being in Mexico and eating a great meal there. Enjoy!

You can also serve this with rice and salad and make it into a taco night!

Whole Wheat Pie Crust

Whole wheat pie crust is yummy! Its good with hearty meals when you are using the dark whole wheat (red) and when you use the white whole wheat then you can use it with pastries and such. Or if you wanted you could even experiment (like I do) with a little of both. Here it is plain and simple I hope you enjoy! If you bookmark it you can have it on hand. God Bless!

Preheat oven to 450 degrees

Directions and Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of sifted whole wheat flour
2 tsp. of honey
1/2 tsp. of sea salt
1/2 cup of butter or margarine cut in till pieces are small pea sized
Sprinkle in 4 to 5 tbls. cold water or milk one at a time ( I put a couple of ice cubes into a cereal bowl full of water ) or more until it holds together.
Make into a ball and lightly flour. Roll out into a circle or two and fold into fourths (like large pie pieces) and place into your pizza pan or pie pans. Bake for about 6 to 7 minutes or follow the directions in your pie recipe. I have this really neat pie pan that has the curvy edges and so I just press my pie crust into my pan instead of rolling it out. But I'm funny like that:)

NIV verses KJV

This is an old blog post written on Zeke's blog.

Facts about the NIV

The NIV leaves out over 40 verses

Acts 8:37 is an example of this.

This verse is important because it show by example that a person must believe before he is baptized.
The omission of this verse leaves way for the heresy of infant baptism
There are more than 40 verses left out of the NIV that the KJV has. Today we will write about a few of them to give you a little sample of why I choose the KJV.

The KJV lifts up the Deity of Christ
The NIV attacks the Deity of Christ
By making Joseph His father instead of God. In Luke 2:33
NIV - The child's father and mother..
KJV – Joseph and his Mother

The KJV tells us that we can become the sons and daughters of Christ through salvation.
The NIV attacks the sonship of believers.
By making Jesus the one and only Son instead of the only begotten Son in John 3:16 this is a direct contradiction to 1John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

This is a really good book on this subject!
