Herpes Roster or Shingles, is a highly contagious virus . It appears in a localized area as a red rash that fills with fluid and later crusts over and heals after 2 to 4 weeks. A person who has shingles has had the chicken pox virus as a child and the virus has been asleep in their bodies until it is awakened by a compromised or weakened immune system as well as with increased age. A person with the Herpes Roster virus can not spread Shingles to someone else. They are contagious because they can give the chicken pox virus to those who haven't had it before especially those with weak immune systems; such as babies and pregnant women.
